Global food production is a major driver of climate change, accounting for nearly 30% of global CO₂ emissions, as well as significant land overuse and water consumption.
At the same time, accelerating desertification intensifies the crisis. Each year, approximately 50,000 km² of formerly arable land are lost to barren desert — reducing agricultural capacity and increasing pressure on already fragile ecosystems.
In particular, the African continent is affected by this climatic development of desertification, which will lead to massive climate refugee flows in the near future.
First, we should ask ourselves who is meant by “us.” Us in the West? Us in Europe? In Austria? Or you at home?
We all – globally – are feeling the growing climate crisis.
So the question is, what can we do about it?
Because even in Europe, desertification is advancing. Reports of droughts, wildfires, and constant dryness in countries
like Spain, Greece, and Italy are regularly in the media.
We, meaning you and our team, can make a change and move things forward!
In our years of research, we have gathered all the necessary components to show in a pilot project how a regional and
eventually transregional solution to global desertification can work.
With the LifeCircle project, we are creating new life and positive growth in the desert fringe areas of Namibia.
